Who actually reviews your child
Supervised: a certificated teacher employed by the associate board or associate independent school. Unsupervised: nobody, unless the Executive Director of Field Services opens an investigation under s.1.2.
Annual. The live alberta.ca page (2026-08-19) prints both dates: notified and accepted 'before September 30' for the 50% grant, and 'not eligible for funding if a home education program is accepted after September 29'. AR 89/2019 fixes no calendar date. This is a FUNDING date, not a legal filing deadline.

AR 89/2019 s.1.1(3): 'in a form and manner approved by the Minister and within the time required by the Minister' - the regulation itself fixes no calendar date.

Supervised programs only, and only where the program does NOT follow the Alberta Programs of Study. Timelines are set by each school authority. Must contain, per AR 89/2019 s.3(6): (a) the activities selected and how they enable the student to achieve the applicable outcomes, (b) instructional methods and resources, (c) the means of conducting evaluations of progress, (d) the name of the instructor if not the parent.

Parent must also certify (s.3(5)(a)) that the selected activities will enable the student to achieve the applicable outcomes, and the school authority must accept the program.
AR 89/2019 s.4(1): conduct evaluations at regular intervals, keep a record of the methods and DATES, and keep dated samples of student work and a general record of the student's activities.
Goes to: Retained by the parent; produced to the supervising authority on request
AR 89/2019 s.4(2)(b): at least 2 evaluations of the student's progress in each school year, conducted by a teacher employed by the authority, at a mutually agreeable time and place, with the parent present if they choose.
