   Register the student with the Minister

   Before the home education program starts, then every year (Education Act s.31(2)). Aurora Virtual School sets its own registration dates (15 May, 15 September, 30 September); those are the school's dates, not the Act's.

   yukon.ca (read 2026-10-18) says families homeschooling in English register with the Aurora School, whose staff help set up the program, write educational plans and arrange achievement testing; French First Language families register with the CSFY's Ecole Nomade program. The Act's wording was read from the official PDF in an Internet Archive copy.

2. September 15You file

   Educational plan

   Before the home education program starts (Education Act s.31(3)(a)). The Act says a plan covers at least three school years (s.31(3)(b)); Aurora Virtual School's form asks for a plan for one school year, renewed before 15 September. Both are quoted here: ask Aurora Virtual School which it needs from you.

   How often: initial before start; Act s.31(3)(b) says a plan shall be for a minimum of three school years

   Each plan describes the learning activities that will meet the goals in the Act (s.31(3)(c), s.4(a)(i)). Achievement testing is optional, at the parent's request (s.31(4); Regulations s.6), unless the Minister acts under s.31(7) or (8).
